
Parent/Child
The Parent/Child Program is for children born between April 1, 2010 and September 30, 2010 and their parents. The program meets one day a week for 90 minutes and both parent and child attend together. During the first half of the class parents have the opportunity to participate with their child in the classroom. In the second half, parents and the CDS Director of Parent Education discuss parenting strategies, educational theories, and research on developmental issues while teachers lead the children in activities.
Twos
The Twos program is for children born between October 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010. For 2012-2013 there will be the option for this age group to attend either three mornings a week, Monday through Wednesday,or two days a week, Thursday and Friday. In these classes the children are introduced to the concept of “school’, a safe and nurturing place to learn and play with other children. Through exploration, play, music, and use of the many Country Day playgrounds the children participate in numerous activities that help develop their social skills and help them become comfortable in a group setting.
Threes
The Threes program for children who are three before September 30, 2012. For 2012-2013 CDS will offer a five day Monday – Friday/3 hour morning program option in addition to the current Monday-Thursday/3 hour morning program and the Monday-Thursday/3 hour afternoon program. In this program language and literature play a major role as the children participate in a wide range of activities to increase their language competency. The children also enjoy many science and math explorations both inside and outside of the classroom and continue to master social skills as they participate in dramatic and cooperative play.
Fours
This program is for children who turn four before September 30, 2012, there is a Monday-Friday/3 hour morning program and Monday-Thursday/3.5 hour afternoon program. The part-day program meets either five mornings a week or four afternoons. During this exciting year, the children in all options expand their language and pre-literacy skills, develop increasingly complex problem solving and critical thinking skills, and learn to make predictions and test ideas. At this age level the children also begin to work more independently and manage their own projects, taking advantage of all classroom activities in addition to enrichment classes in science, art, and movement.
FOURS LUNCH BUNCH –For 2012-2013 CDS will continue to offer a Lunch Bunch option to children enrolled in the morning or afternoon Fours program. Children may participate in Lunch Bunch either 2 or 4 days a week, Monday and Wednesday or Monday through Thursday. Morning Fours stay at school an additional hour after class and eat lunch brought from home. Afternoon Fours arrive an hour early, eat lunch brought from home, and then join their class at the regular class arrival time.
Kindergarten
The Kindergarten program is for those children who are five by September 30, 2012 and who families wish for them to have the advantage of an all day Kindergarten. The curriculum includes instruction in language arts and reading, mathematics, social studies, science, art, physical education, and music. In both small groups and individually the children develop problem solving abilities, increase their ability to think analytically, and learn time management skills.
Kindergarten is a full day program that starts at 8:05 each morning and ends at 3:15 Monday through Thursday and 1:50 on Fridays.
