Welcome to Country Day School!
Country Day School is an NAEYC accredited school located in McLean, Virginia. Our school was founded by Dorothy B. McCormick in 1964 and moved to its current location in 1972. Country Day sits on four beautiful acres consisting of nine playgrounds and a butterfly garden, two education buildings containing classrooms, a nature room, an art studio and a library. At Country Day we continually strive to design our educational and recreational programs around the appreciation and preservation of our beautiful grounds.
The school is staffed by experienced early childhood educators who understand the developmental needs of preschoolers and kindergartners. Teachers engage the children daily in both small group and individual activities taking advantage of the many wonderful classrooms, both indoors and out. Enrichments in Science, Music, Art, Movement and Library are also part of the daily schedules.
The CDS mission statement commits the school to a “strong parent-school partnership,” to “offer ongoing sequential parent education,” and to “welcome active parent participation in the school’s programs.” A Parent and Child program is offered where parents and their young two year olds attend combined play and parent education sessions. Parents have many opportunities to participate in classroom activities and Parent Representative Organization (PRO) events. Parents are strongly encouraged to become part of our strong and supportive community.
