FAQ

How do I apply to Country Day School (CDS)?

Families may apply and pay the $80 non-refundable, non-transferable application fee online beginning October 1.

When should I apply?

Applications for the upcoming school year are accepted October 1 – January 15 prior to the year you would like your child to attend. The application deadline is January 15.

What if I apply after January 15?

Applications received after January 15 will be placed on our wait list and will be given consideration after applications received by the deadline.

Are parent visits to CDS required?

Yes, attendance at an individual parent-only tour or a parent-only Open House is a requirement of the application process.

How do I schedule a visit?

Contact the Director of Admissions, Lorrie Hallahan at lhallahan@countryday.org, 703-356-9149, or inquire online to schedule a visit.

Are children required to have a visit?

No. While we find meeting our applicants valuable and enjoyable, our tours are designed for parents-only. School visits include a tour of our 4 acres and 9 playgrounds, our many classrooms, and a time to sit and discuss our programs and curriculum which takes about 45 minutes. As our environment is designed for young children, it is challenging for them to easily motor through playgrounds and classrooms that are so inviting to them. We appreciate your cooperation.

How do I apply for financial aid?

For detailed information about the financial aid process, please review Financial Aid. The deadline for applying for financial aid through FACTS is January 15.

Does applying for financial aid influence my child’s application?

No. Admission to the Country Day School is need blind and requests for financial aid have no bearing on admissions decisions.

Does CDS have rolling admissions?

Our application season is October through January 15. Applications received outside of that window will be considered as they are received. If spaces are available, children may enroll at any time of year.

When will I know if my child has been offered enrollment?

Enrollment notifications will be emailed to parents in early March.

How will I know if my child has moved off of the waitlist?

If a space becomes available to your child at any time in the school year, the Admissions Director will contact you via email.
